Day trips from Macau

Macau sits at the mouth of the Pearl River Delta with three genuinely fast links: (1) Hong Kong — TurboJET/Cotai Water Jet ferry ~65-80 min, or the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) 'Golden Bus', ~45-60 min and running 24 hours a day, both landing you close to central HK within ~1.5-2h door-to-door of AsiaWorld-Expo, Kai Tak Stadium or HKCEC; (2) Zhuhai — walk straight across the Gongbei/Portas do Cerco border gate in 10-30 min (longer at weekends/holidays), putting you right next to Zhuhai Railway Station and the Zhuhai International Circuit road network; (3) Shenzhen/Guangzhou — either the direct Macau-Shenzhen (Shekou or Fuyong) ferry (~60-70 min) or walk-across-then-high-speed-rail via Zhuhai Station (Zhuhai-Guangzhou South HSR, ~1-1.5h), giving a Guangzhou day trip of roughly 2-2.5h door-to-door. Note: as of 15 June 2026 Macau-side ferry services consolidated onto the Taipa Ferry Terminal (Outer Harbour largely wound down), so double-check which Macau terminal a route uses when booking. Mainland-China legs (Zhuhai/Shenzhen/Guangzhou) require normal mainland entry (Macau permanent residents get 90-day visa-free entry; other nationalities should check their own visa-free/visa-on-arrival status for Guangdong) — Hong Kong itself needs no separate visa for most passports beyond what's already needed to reach Macau.

AXA Presents 'You & Mi' — Sammi Cheng in Concert (Asia Tour Finale)

Kai Tak Stadium, Kowloon, Hong Kong, HK

One of Cantopop's biggest stars closing her whole Asia tour in Hong Kong's newest and most talked-about stadium — the kind of three-night event locals will be talking about all summer

2026-07-10 to 2026-07-12 · best day Sat, 11 Jul 2026~1.5-2h door-to-door each way
Getting there: Ferry from Macau (Taipa) to Sheung Wan/Kowloon ~65-80 min, or HZMB Golden Bus ~45-60 min into HK, then taxi/MTR to Kai Tak (new stadium precinct, Kai Tak MTR station on the Tuen Ma line) ~20-30 min
⚠️ Shows start 7:30pm and Cantopop icon Sammi Cheng's first-ever Kai Tak Stadium run — all three nights (including the added third show) sold out within minutes, so this is one to know about/watch for resale rather than count on booking; if you do get in, plan on the HZMB Golden Bus (runs 24h) rather than the ferry for the ~11pm finish, since late-night ferry sailings are limited and have been affected by the mid-2026 Macau terminal move to Taipa
racing / equestrian

Hong Kong Jockey Club 2025/26 Season Finale Raceday

Sha Tin Racecourse, New Territories, Hong Kong, HK

Hong Kong's biggest raceday of the year at its flagship Sha Tin track, with the pageantry of a full season-closing celebration rather than just an ordinary card — and it's genuinely the last local raceday until the new season starts in September, so this is the one

2026-07-12 · best day Sun, 12 Jul 2026~2h door-to-door each way
Getting there: Ferry/HZMB bus from Macau into HK (~1.5-2h) then MTR East Rail/Ma On Shan line to Sha Tin station, a short walk from the racecourse entrance
⚠️ Afternoon meeting with the champion jockeys' parade, champion awards and 'Your Moment of the Season' results as the 2025/26 season wraps up — finishes early evening, comfortably in time for the last ferry or the round-the-clock HZMB bus back
cultural / exhibition

HKTDC Hong Kong Book Fair (36th edition)

Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), Wan Chai, HK

600+ exhibitors from 30+ countries in one of Asia's largest book fairs — a proper day out even for non-bibliophiles given the scale and the adjoining Wan Chai harbourfront

2026-07-15 to 2026-07-21 · best day Sat, 18 Jul 2026~1.5-2h door-to-door each way
Getting there: Ferry/HZMB bus from Macau into HK island (~1.5-2h), then short MTR/taxi ride to Wan Chai (HKCEC is a 10-min walk from Wan Chai MTR)
⚠️ Open 10am-10pm most days (9am-5pm on the closing Tuesday); the biggest annual books/reading event in the region draws huge weekend crowds, so a weekday visit is more comfortable
cultural / exhibition

27th Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong (ACGHK)

Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), Wan Chai, HK

Hong Kong's flagship anime/comics/games convention, freshly expanded for 2026 with a stronger international line-up — a easy, fun add-on if you're already making the Book Fair trip that week

2026-07-24 to 2026-07-28 · best day Sun, 26 Jul 2026~1.5-2h door-to-door each way
Getting there: Same route as the Book Fair — ferry/HZMB bus into HK (~1.5-2h), then MTR/taxi to Wan Chai
⚠️ Runs right after the Book Fair closes in the same venue; the expanded 2026 edition is being pitched as Hong Kong's first official Comic Con-style event, so expect big weekend queues — a weekday (Mon 27/Tue 28) trip is calmer
motorsport

China GT Championship + Toyota Gazoo Racing China GR86 Cup — Zhuhai round

Zhuhai International Circuit, Jinwan District, Zhuhai, CN

Real wheel-to-wheel GT racing at China's best-known circuit, a short border-walk away — good for a proper motorsport day without a long-haul flight

2026-07-24 to 2026-07-26 · best day Sat, 25 Jul 2026~1.5-2h door-to-door each way
Getting there: Walk across the Gongbei/Portas do Cerco border (10-30 min depending on queues), then taxi/DiDi from Zhuhai city ~40-50 min to the circuit in Jinwan
⚠️ A full GT/touring-car race weekend with support races (GR86 Cup); qualifying typically Friday/Saturday with feature races Saturday-Sunday afternoons — check the final on-track schedule nearer the date for the best single day to attend
music / concert

Kit Chan — 2026 'Atrium Live' Tour, Shenzhen

Shenzhen Bao'an Sports Center Gymnasium, Shenzhen, CN

An intimate arena show from one of Mandopop/Cantopop's most respected singers ('Sing Woman' era veteran) — a good low-key alternative to the bigger Hong Kong arena gigs, and Bao'an ferry terminal makes it an easy there-and-back

2026-07-25 · best day Sat, 25 Jul 2026~1.5h door-to-door each way
Getting there: Direct Macau-Shenzhen ferry (Taipa/Outer Harbour to Fuyong, near Bao'an Airport) ~60-70 min, then short taxi to the Sports Center; alternatively via Shekou terminal + metro
⚠️ 7pm start; note this clashes on the calendar with the Zhuhai GT weekend above, so it's an either/or choice for that Saturday rather than a double-header
music festival / concert

XG World Tour: THE CORE — Hong Kong

AsiaWorld-Expo Hall 10, Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong, HK

One of the hottest J-pop/K-pop crossover acts right now, in HK's biggest arena venue right by the airport — an easy add-on if you're already flying in/out that weekend

2026-08-02 · best day Sun, 2 Aug 2026~2h door-to-door each way
Getting there: Ferry/HZMB bus from Macau into HK (~1.5-2h), then Airport Express to AsiaWorld-Expo station (the venue sits right by the airport) or a coach/taxi from the ferry terminal
⚠️ Originally slated for 31 July 2026, the show was rescheduled to Sunday 2 August after mainland social-media backlash over the original date's proximity to the Unit 731 historical anniversary — worth knowing if you're wondering why the date moved; as of this show being announced there was no further change
motorsport

4 Hours of Zhuhai — China Endurance Championship

Zhuhai International Circuit, Jinwan District, Zhuhai, CN

A proper endurance race (not just sprints) at the same circuit, giving motorsport fans a second Zhuhai trip within the window without repeating the same race format

2026-08-14 to 2026-08-16 · best day Sat, 15 Aug 2026~1.5-2h door-to-door each way
Getting there: Same route as the July GT round — walk the Gongbei border (10-30 min) then taxi ~40-50 min to the circuit
⚠️ Endurance format means longer green-flag running than a typical sprint weekend — a good pick if you want more track time for the trip; confirm the exact race-day within the Fri-Sun window closer to the date
