UK, EU, US, AU, NZ) get visa-free entry to Macau on arrival. Mainland Greater Bay Area destinations (Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai) are a different proposition: they require actual entry into mainland China, so unless your passport is on China's unilateral 30-day visa-free list (as of 2026 this covers 50 countries incl. UK, most of the EU, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and several Gulf states - that list DOES cover land/rail border crossings like Lo Wu, Futian and the West Kowloon high-speed rail checkpoint), you need a Chinese visa arranged in advance. Note the separate Guangdong 144/240-hour visa-free TRANSIT scheme (54 nationalities) does NOT help for a same-day HK round trip - it's only issued at Guangzhou Baiyun, Shenzhen Bao'an or Jieyang Chaoshan airports for onward international transit, not at land crossings from Hong Kong. Always check your own nationality's current rules before travelling, as these policies change frequently.
