Operating & paperwork checklist
- Bailiwick GAR (every trip) — Required for EVERY private flight in or out of the Bailiwick, both directions, UK and France. File via the gov.gg online portal or signed email to [email protected].
- Passport — Issued <10 years ago, ≥3 months validity beyond exit date. No UK eTA issue for British citizens returning.
- Flight plan + over-water kit — Flight plan required both ways for Channel crossings; carry lifejackets/liferaft per over-water requirements.
- UK sGAR (UK↔CI) — Mandatory. File on the GOV.UK sGAR service or an approved app ONLY (email no longer compliant). No earlier than 48h, no later than 2h before departure. Any passenger/document change = new GAR + fresh 2h clock. £2,500 penalty for landing at a non-approved aerodrome.
- Customs interest — From the UK it is customs-interest only — declare goods over allowances. Bailiwick GAR still required both ends.
- France customs (préavis) — First landing must be at a customs PPF airport. Most Normandy/Brittany PPFs want 24h notice, 48h at weekends (Caen up to 72h) with strict ETA compliance. Le Touquet is full-time customs (flight plan only). The PPF list is being trimmed — re-check before each trip.
- EES biometrics — EU Entry/Exit System live since 10 Apr 2026 and applies at GA PPFs. First French entry = face + fingerprint enrolment on the ground — allow extra time on trip #1. 90/180-day rule tracked electronically. ETIAS not yet required summer 2026.
- Border check on return — From France expect Bailiwick Border Agency attendance (passport check) on arrival back in Guernsey.
